We should begin compulsory purchase discussions earlier
When I appeared before the Neighbourhood Planning Bill Committee last month, I was asked: “Will the compulsory purchase reforms make a real difference to bringing forward land for housing?” My answer? The reforms will not make a material difference to housing delivery.
For compulsory purchase a strategic approach is best
As is right and proper in a country in which the concept of property rights is as old as the hills, the compulsory purchase of an individual’s or institution’s property is very much a last-ditch option.
